JUDGING and RANCH FAMILES
In 1971 I lost a coin toss between my older brother and I on who would get the first pick of the two the Hogs that my folks were able purchase, one was raised at the University of Davis in California and the other was from the next door neighbor, Well you can bet that we both wanted the Hog from University of Davis, not the one from next door, Well it was not unusual for me to lose the toss of the coin, that’s the way my Dad always settled Family disputes, and I never won. Then as months past and Ventura County Fair came around at judging I was being singled out for what I thought was another animal not going to make auction, I had been there before with a Lamb, I cant tell you how surprised I was when the Judge announced my Hog was The 1971 Ventura County Grand Champion. So I just had to feature these Hog Shots first, lots of good memories of 4H.Rural life at its Best.
