Parker Ranch Waimea Hawaii
Rodeo Hawaiian Style
Parker Ranch was once over 500,000 acres and ran 30,000 head of cattle.
It’s a 40 mile drive from Kailua-Kona where Nancy and I were staying and where The Parker Ranch Round - Up Club put on there 39th Annual Labor day Rodeo.
My Gallery starts off with a little Slack but I didn’t shoot all the 93 teams that participated . Next came The Hawaiian Tradition Rodeo Events. The first one was called “P'o’Wai U” a method of roping and tying the steer. The next was called Kane-Wahine Ribbon Roping. This is were the steer is roped and a man and a women pull the ribbon and run with it while holding hands to a barrel and flagman. You will see by the photos the lava rock was no surprise, but cactus was. On the 40 mile trip to the Ranch you can see the green side of the island starts to appear .
It was a beautiful day on the island, with clouds, wind and hat chasing going on all day.
One of the highlights of the day was one determined young Cowgirl Tie down Roper.
You don’t see many ladies entered in Tie Down Roping. This young Hawaiian cowgirl was the toughest, most determined I have ever scene, I have included several shots all the way through to the final tie, so enjoy.
Prayers go out to The Bull Rider that was hospitalized in Saturdays Performance
I have edited out the last 4 photos of his Ride do to the condition of this Bull Rider,
It was announced at Sundays performance that he was recovering at the Hospital and his condition was stable.
..
Special Thanks to The Parker Ranch
The Parker Ranch Round - Up Club for such a wonderful Rodeo.
And to Craig Cunningham Saddle maker, artist and Historian, for the private Tour of The Ranch Museum.
And to My wife Nancy for contacting the Parker Ranch to get approval for me to do this Shoot.
